This thread is for ideas, suggestions, proposals, etc. NO idea is too silly to mention :) although some might be too impractical to implement.

As possibilities become probabilities, I will create another thread for the Con itself and concrete facts/decisions/information.

Yes Ran, that bump was the sound of you hitting your head on the cabinet when you were pulling our cookies out of the oven. :-D

As for you Miss Guided, you just get yourself over here, and I will be your taxi for the week.! You also need to swing by and pick up Stooby, stuff him in your suitcase.

With that in mind actually, we have quite a few players from the UK. Is there a better time to travel for that contingent? In the US school is out in mid June for most and starts end of August again for most. Or is there a different off peak time that would be better to accomodate people from overseas?

With Sleuth Con I barely a memory, it sounds like Sleuth Con II planning is well underway. I know you are just working through the big picture stuff right now, but I have a request for the organizers to keep in mind. Could Ben and I be brought into the discussion when dates and places are closer to being set? This year’s date and location were both very difficult for us even though we were able to get Ben there for about 24 hrs. Orlando is a long way to go for just 24 hrs!

It sounds like mid-west is on the table. Hmmm, what’s wrong with the west coast? Say, Seattle?

It looks like its been decided that if its west coast, its Portland from what I understand from Rhie's earlier posts.

::grins:: Sunny, I would love to have it on the West Coast being from there myself lol. And that IS on the agenda for next year. I've had so many requests for Mid-West, that I think we are mostly migrating now :D... East Coast, Mid-West, West Coast.

And of COURSE you will be brought into the discussion! I will email you what we've talked about so far, which doesn't really include much in the way of decisions as of yet, lol.

I've not heard of anyone stepping up to volunteer organizing SleuthCon Euro... but that doesn't mean someone won't. I would love to see that happen. With that in mind, I think perhaps we will need to focus on somewhere that will have the technology we need for video conferencing just in case.... Which, at this time, puts my so far favorite place out of the running. :(

that still leaves the question of private setting in the country or downtown with ALL the amenities... I'm getting some rather noncommittal answers here, lol. :D although, it might be necessary to be somewhere that we can get access to needed equipment if none of us have it to bring with us.

I'm looking now at downtown with all the amenities... which would include GenCon. My main concern there will be getting us all in the same hotel if possible. So... I'm still looking for input and suggestions.

My reasons for having the West Coast SleuthCon in Portland is ease of organizing for me since I'm only an hour and a half away from Portland. AND it's more central... Cali below, and Washington above... and there is a major airport there. Given... it's the only real airport in the entire state... ::grins:: (by real I mean a large jet can land there)

But, that is a moot point at this time since it's fairly certain at this time that SC II will be in the Mid-West per popular vote. I'll worry about SC III next year.

I had an IM question I could not really answer well.

Is there any Canadian city that would count at close to the Midwest for people? I go to Toronto once in a while but did not consider that centrally enough located.

Or does the requirement of a passport rule out anything north of the US border?

Sounds like the city has been decided, yet not announced directly.

"I'm looking now at downtown with all the amenities... which would include GenCon. "

Which means the time has also been decided, since GenCon is a mid August event in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Correct???

Wouldn't that make it more expensive? Hotel prices go up exponentially when there's a big convention in town.
