This thread is for ideas, suggestions, proposals, etc. NO idea is too silly to mention :) although some might be too impractical to implement.

As possibilities become probabilities, I will create another thread for the Con itself and concrete facts/decisions/information.

Sounds fair enough Jas and Biggie.

If there is a team out there that wants to plan and organize go for it. Put together a proposal, get all the details (time, place, funding, etc) together and then present to the community.

I have told Rhie that I will do even more for this next event, so it will be good to have the community see two separate proposals and then choose which one to implement.

Everyone knows it was Rhie and What'syourname that did most of the work and planning on Sleuth Con I with my help and support.

Jas who is on your team? Should people send suggestions to you and Biggie?

Would it be possible to hold two separate Sleuth Cons simultaneously? One Mid West and One West Coast? That way we don't have to play Sleuth: Civil War?

It feels like maybe people all want to have a go at organising this :).
And having simultaneous conventions with link ups might be a good way to go.
After all, this isn't Highlander, and there doesn't have to be only one!

(Although, there can be only one does sound more dramatic!)

Maybe someone could put a survey together.. a lot of people don't even read the boards but still might like to go to a convention.

The survey could ask people id they'd go, where they'd go, how much they'd pay ect.

And then perhaps it could be posted as people log in.

In other game communities, they is often one or two individuals organizing these things, and I do think it was great that Rhi and others organized another Sleuth meet up. :)

From Amsterdam to Florida to.... East Coast, West Coast of the States, England and even Australia.

I don't really don't see what the problem is with one group organizing it if that what they want.
I don't see the problem with a lot of different groups organizing others if they want.
I don't see a problem with there being more than one.
I don't see a problem with it being a structed weekend with games and activities or being like the Amsterdam one where you just run around in giant clogs :)

I really think it's awesome some took the intiative and said, "Right, let's have a Sleuth Con, here is where and how" just as I think it was awesome someone said, "Ok, I'm going to be in Amsterdam here and who wants to meet."

Obviously, a lot people from Australia, England and maybe even Canada don't care where in the States the Sleuth Con even is as they won't be able to go :)
I hope though, that if they wanted, they'd organize one in their country. Or State or Island or whatever :)

Personally though, I'd still love to do a Nile Cruise, Poirot and Swinging '2os style.

That would rock!

Alternatively, of course, anyone who wants to organize it could get together and form some sort of committee. Especially if you're scattered over the States.
You could each reaserch a part and prices, and then come back together, show each other what you find and then posted it here.

If a lot of people want a part in planning and organizing one big Sleuth Con then it might make it easier for everyone.
After all, many hands make light work and it takes a village to raise a baby and all that guff.

I guess it's good that saying isn't, "it takes the village people to raise a baby''....

WOW guys and girls I am very impressed with the volunteers. Of the numerous committees I have been involved with this the best response for volunteers that I have seen. Usually people complain but are not willing to do anything!

So thank you for answering my cost question. It seems that travel costs are the main thing and unfortunately people vote for the area closer to them as then their costs are lower. I wont get into our costs to attend the 1st SleuthCon but will say woody and I will go again. We had a great time and loved meeting other players who have now become friends. A great deal of time went into planning this event and they did a great job!

I think the main thing then to think about is how many would you like to attend and if you would like a lot of people you need to be a more central location which would be for us in Ontario an 8 to 10 hour drive. Of course this would not please everyone but you are never going to achieve this.

I do like the idea of a vote for the area and that would mean I would vote for the Mid-West :)

Holding two separate Sleuth Cons simultaneously is another idea but how would we choose which to go to?

I have been to quite a few get togethers for an internet game for a game called The Stone. I have traveled as close to my hometown, Cleveland Oh, Hershey PA, New York City, Winnipeg Manitoba, and London (Actually Cambridge, but I stayed with players in London.

It would be great to make this get together an annual event, but there is no reason that any player can't organize a small get together in their home city.

I put together a small one here in Cleveland and all we did was meet for dinner and drinks, granted we were all from the area, but we had cell phone conversations with other players elsewhere. There were 8 people there IIRC.

Regardless of location, there will be some people that just can't make it.

The turnout for SleuthCon I was a bit disappointing, but it should'nt be discouraging.

I should mention that the get togethers for The Stone were not sanctioned by the game itself, it was the community of players taking the game a step further.

Here is a link to some pics at some of the gatherings:
