Haha Fid... I think the question here is: What ho did you learn that from?
Now that you know, I figured you deserve one of your own. So I plucked a little chest hair, borrowed a little kindergarten paste and presto! Instant modesty :)

Yes, but only in the sense that both involve things that really should be soaked in vinegar for a long, long time before being handled :)

The BBC has a program about obscure words - there is an adult version being done and one episode is going to be "400 years of the Merkin"
The scary thing is that the Mem Sahib knew exactly what one was straight away - I blame the "Jam and Jerusalem" crowd myself....Helen Mirren has a lot to answer for.

I am not sure what is more disturbing, the fact that Crunch made Fiddler a merkin out of his chest hair, or that he was able to find a picture that illustrates it so well.

"Merkin Patty" has a very nice ring to it, but I'll admit that I shudder at the thought of you reproducing....no, really.
Given the state of hairless baby pickles, perhaps Sara Lou was on to something. We could make a fortune marketing a Gherkin Merkin.
