DITTO
And the info about if they had seen and heard anything DOES help. I usually can eliminate 1-2 suspects that way.. I ask about the same suspects in the same order to everyone, usually do this before checking evidence, except for Butcher and Barber my "spies" :)

Ah, see, and I take the opposite approach. I ask about motive until my suspect list is complete, asking about alibi second.
Then I investigate the evidence and alibis with my contacts. As I find out whose footprint it is, I check the alibi.
Then, if necessary, I continue on to the physical evidence with my non-contact townspeople. For that part of solving I check the alibi first, and then only ask about the curly hair (or whatever) for that person if they have curly hair and no valid alibi.
Then if all the townspeople clam up on me, I ask my fellow agents in my agency for help OR go ahead to asking the suspects about whom they suspect, having narrowed down the list by this time to two or three people.
So it's the opposite approach, saving the suspect evidence for last, and it works very well for me, but of course this is with an evidence contact and working within the context of what's possible in an agency.
