i was wondering, should u concentrate on getting the skills that best match your detective, i mean if the detective is smart and tough, then get smarts and toughness skills?? or should we also get the others (charm) as we go along??

You should get skills that enhance your detective's characteristics. That applies to the items you collect/buy/earn, too.

I only started getting the oposite skills when I had all the skills for my type. The only exception would be if you are charming still get lock picking etc.
