Im a newbie, did not see this answered may not have been in the right area, I looked at the newbie faq but did not see this addresses.

Sometimes when I finish a case I will receive a Skill Point and other times I do not.

Why?

Respectfully submitted,
Madame Pamela

In a way it is related to the difficulty of the case. The more difficult the case the more exp you get. So the harder the case, the fewer you have to do to earn a skill point.

At your level, increasing the case difficulty will still give you a skill point. Doing easy cases may take 3 or 4 cases before you get a skill point but the next level up may give you one for every case for a while.

Don't forget that it is okay to drop down a level if they prove to be too hard though.

Just for added info:

To clarify...

1. Skill points gained are effected by the cases based on the experience they give you. And since higher difficulties give higher experience... well you do the math...

But...

2. Doing more easy cases than hard cases will lessen your sleuth's experience growth for the day since we only get limited number of cases per day.

3. Doing more easy cases than hard cases will also affect favor's difficulty. The more cases you have done, the higher the difficulty your favors will be. (The favor's difficulty have a limit, though. RRH I think...)

Sometimes, though, we need to solve multiple easier cases rather than 1 really difficult one if we can hardly solve the more difficult levels.

Did what I write make sense?

Gaah... It's 1 a.m. here and I'm already half-asleep... I'll just correct myself later after I get some sleep.

Favours top out at Incredibly Hard, and you can actually get some really decent gear as rewards at that level. Also, get the skill points and spend them wisely now, y'all - once you hit about 500 000 exp, you're only gonna be getting one skill point for every 40 000 exp or so :)

Also correct me if i'm wrong someone, but cases don't affect the difficulty of the favour. I think somewhere I read that it is every 10 cases (no matter what level) before you jump to the next favour level. Although as Crunch say it tops out at Incredibly Hard.

Yep Helen, once you complete 10 favors at a certain level, it goes up.

It's good to know that they stop at Incredibly Hard. I was worried! :)
