I would agree on this. To clarify.

1. pickpocketing gets you extra cash, if the murderer is the client. You can't possibly be hard on cash at this stage of the game.
2. Safe cracking only of use for good of an agency. Any agency you join will already have this skill around.
3. Hypnotism gets you extra suspects. As long as you remember to ask the motive question first. You don't need them, as long as you develop your other skills well.

Research knocks one person without alibi of your list. THis skill is my favourite. Lock picketing, offers you also extra suspects or an alibi. It knocks down one extra question you need to ask two people that are suspects.

As you are smart and charming. In addition to the above get your rule bending, sweet talking skills and analysis skills. Hold off on the analysis skills for a bit, until you know who is your physical evidence contact. You may be spending valuable points on hair for instance, and get the barber contact the day after.

Safe cracking isn't as important as the basic toughness or charm skills (depending on character), true. Nor is it as important as evidence, research or lock picking...however I think it is the best of the three faction skills.

I think it is helpful to have as many people as possible in the agency have it - what if the person with safecracking isn't on, and you lose the hunt because of it?

Oops, did I just give away a strategy?

Do rembember to get basic thread and hair analysis early on, without these you will not find the hairs and threads at all, but the advanced can wait.
