I remember the contest from last year, which was hosted by the gracious Madame Giry before her departure. I just thought that... well, since a year has passed since last April that we give this another shot. Contests are always great community spirit boosters, and are tons of fun as well.

The rules are simple: create a biography for your detective. Remember it's quality, not quantity that counts. It can be any genre, just as long as it fits the timeframe of Sleuth (mid-1930's) and that it's gramatically correct and readable.

I need about three to four judges that are willing to give up a period of time one afternoon or evening to read the entries and judge them on a set of categories. This will be done in the in-game chatroom, or even in a special thread that will be guarded by a Moderator or Editor. We've done the latter last year, and it was pretty effective (although the page had to be refreshed constantly).

To enter your detective in the contest, PM Detective BioContest07 with your name by April 20th, 2007. More details will be forthcoming after that date passes. I do not need volunteers for judges as of yet. You cannot participate in the contest if you are a judge. Judge details will be forthcoming as well. Any requirements? You must be at least 20 days old to enter. I don't care whether you're subscribed or not.

I have no prize for a winner, but I'm working on it. Contributions would be great. So, let's get your applications in, and start working on those bios!

BioContest07:

While my remarks on my post upset another contestant, I don't see why the others need to be penalised.
While the protest forfeit is worthy, perhaps a better way of protest is too let me pay the winner the two month sub?
I'm halfway through the judging and will be finished today and will send in those results.
If the contstant would like to re-enter, it would be no trouble for me to re-evalute my judging.

I'd also like to state here (thanks S) why I offered this sub in the first place:

The whole Sleuth experience is not complete until you've travelled, seen how agencies work and participated in a hunt. Not to mention having somewhere to hang your coat. That and the fact, three cases a day are never enough. Also, by subbing your character can reach their potencial a lot faster and with the help and grace of the community.

Which brings me to the next point: Sleuth (as I have mentioned numerous times) is more than a game. It has a fantastic and lively community and everyone works hard to help each other out. It is the most "family" orientated online game on the internet, in the way people make you feel at home. You meet, and more importantly get to KNOW, some truely great and fantastic people.

While, I respect your forfeit, I think it means your missing out on the great things about Sleuth. As SS pointed out to me .. I (everyone) need to stop obsessing over the little things because they'll never be bigger than the whole.

Such a fantastic and great fiance.

I'm sorry to here about the forfeit. I sincerely hope you reconsider Finale because you had a great bio, in fact everyone in the contest has good bios. We are a great community and i hope you stick around long enough to see that. As has been mentioned on other threads recently 'the good far outweighs the bad'.

I have already started judging but i would really like to be able to include your bio in the judging as well. Having said that if you stand by the forfeit, which of course you are perfectly entitled to do, then i do think it unfair for other participants to be penalised. So whilst i still intend on finishing the judging today i will hold off to the last moment.

Sorry, I mistyped something. Let me repost...

I apologize for causing this much trouble to the contest. I only realized now how some of you might be inconvenienced by my forfeiture. I thought you guys would just erase my name from the list or something. Please don’t penalize the other contestants on my account.

Lady Ruby, you don’t have to apologize to me because you are not the one responsible for what happened • I think there is some confusion with whom I have a problem with (which is kind of funny because you sent a PM of apology the same time the other person sent yet another offensive PM to me).

I was really annoyed by this person after receiving certain messages. And I got really angered when she somehow got a couple of my posted messages in the message board deleted • which made me realize she held some power with the mods. I’ll just be damned if she gets THIS message deleted ***saving in wordpad just in case***

After speaking with another Sleuth gamer who had similar experiences, I realized this wasn’t an isolated incident, so now I no longer want to invest too much of my time in this game (I was getting too addicted anyway.). I forfeited because I thought that the others would find the free subscription more useful than I do now (plus, in retrospect, I was just being dramatic from my bad experience. I seemed to have gone overboard. Yes, a drama queen, I know.).

So please accept my forfeiture and not make this such a big thing. And good luck to the contestant. I apologize again to everyone involved.

OMGWTFBBQLOL!!!! Sleuth Drama? I never thought drama could exist here. -.- I mean, were all mature, intelligent and decent peeps right? Finale, even if you do forfeit, I hope you stay on the site and enjoy the game subbed or unsubbed. People will always have differences, its up to you to persevere onward to the path of understanding.

Omg! This just made my day. I knew the contest was very tough, there were a few bios I knew that were very original and which I felt were more superior to mine. Im so honored to have won the contest. Many thanks to the sponsors, judges and contestants. Im going to the parlor now and to the spa later on... Have to be ready for the Beauty Pageant. lol. Happy sleuthing everyone! =)
