I remember the contest from last year, which was hosted by the gracious Madame Giry before her departure. I just thought that... well, since a year has passed since last April that we give this another shot. Contests are always great community spirit boosters, and are tons of fun as well.

The rules are simple: create a biography for your detective. Remember it's quality, not quantity that counts. It can be any genre, just as long as it fits the timeframe of Sleuth (mid-1930's) and that it's gramatically correct and readable.

I need about three to four judges that are willing to give up a period of time one afternoon or evening to read the entries and judge them on a set of categories. This will be done in the in-game chatroom, or even in a special thread that will be guarded by a Moderator or Editor. We've done the latter last year, and it was pretty effective (although the page had to be refreshed constantly).

To enter your detective in the contest, PM Detective BioContest07 with your name by April 20th, 2007. More details will be forthcoming after that date passes. I do not need volunteers for judges as of yet. You cannot participate in the contest if you are a judge. Judge details will be forthcoming as well. Any requirements? You must be at least 20 days old to enter. I don't care whether you're subscribed or not.

I have no prize for a winner, but I'm working on it. Contributions would be great. So, let's get your applications in, and start working on those bios!

Hey I was just wondering if I can edit my biography just to change a word. There's a verb in it that's past tense that's supposed to be in present tense. It's not a big deal or anything, it's just driving me nuts whenever I see it. I'm sorry, I'm just a stickler for tense consistency...

So can I?

I may not be a judge, but from what I remember reading about this, you all had a chance to make provisions before submitting it. Now its submitted and no changes can be made!

Ah well... I guess I'll just put up with it until the end of the contest.

It's just irritating for me to see it. My english professor would have a conniption fit if he saw it.

The rules did state that no changes could be made after the final date. If it is only a small error though it shouldn't affect your score :)

Yes, no changes are allowed after the deadline. If one person was allowed to make a change, then we would need to allow someone else. So, to keep it fair, please do not change anything until after the competition. I would not get worried about it, the scoring take multiple things into consideration, not just grammar.

I take bribes. Anyone who can get me a packet of Tim Tams before the 9th, has my vote.
