All the News that's Fit to Print

ADOLPH S. OCHS
Publisher

1851: The New York Daily Times was founded by Henry Jarvis Raymond and George Jones, with the first issue appearing on September 18.

1857: The newspaper changes its name to the New York Times.

1869: Upon Henry Jarvis Raymond's death, George Jones assumes control of the newspaper.

1896: With the newspaper close to bankruptcy, a group of Wall Street investors arranges to save the firm--and their investments--by placing it in receivership and recapitalizing it as a new company, The New York Times Company; the paper's new publisher, Adolph Simon Ochs, adopts the slogan, "All the News That's Fit To Print."

Missing Woman Found
by Breit Katherine Pfeiffer Adams

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Rebecca Franks, the woman who first alerted the police of Barry Grant's disappearance, has herself been rescued from the same group responsible for Mr. Grant's abduction.

Mrs. Franks was abducted from The Tricky Mister two nights ago by an unknown yet familiar looking man according to a shady character often found lurking in the back of the bar. The disappearance was discovered by Grant when he went to meet her there. Immediately after the discovery, Grant organized a city-wide search which was efficient enough to locate Franks that same night.

Mrs. Franks is unharmed but recovering from exhaustion and shock. She is expected to recover shortly.
