“Here we are, Miss Parr.” Harrelson motioned the nearest door on their right. “The wife of my former employer” he emphasized the words, “waits for you on the other side of this door.” He handed her a key took a step back.

He pursed his lips together and relaxed his hands behind his back. Nodding toward the room he said, “I believe you’ll find Mrs. Georges in a much more talkative mood than she has been in the last few weeks. Apparently, she finds me rather frightening. Or perhaps some of the ideas I mentioned while moving her here. Curiosity can shape ideas in new and frightening…. Look at me rambling on. Please forgive me, Miss Parr.”

Violet indicated her forgiveness with a dismissive wave of her hand. She inserted the key, turned it, and then hesitated for a brief moment.

“Ladies first.” Said Harrelson as he grinned slowly and bowed deeply.

"Gerroffme!" Arsenio struggling to keep the men away from him. "I AM NOT going back to the Philippines! Get off!" Arsenio then suddenly remembered the knife in his socks.

Arsenio took it and used one of the men as a human shield. "Now then, I bid you adieu." Said Arsenio before jumping into the water.

"Let's see ye' get back to shore!" Shouted one of the sailors. "You won't be able to see me once I am back in shore!"

Arsenio looked to the other direction. He could still see the New York harbor. "Just watch and wait. I'm coming!" Arsenio said as he started his long swim back to shore...

"Urgh... finally... I... I made it! HAHA! I made it!" Arsenio said with a struggle as he got back to his feet 7 hours later. "Time to see Victor Chen for another spare Deringer..."

"Arsenio? MY! Bloody hell! Your soaking wet!" Said Victor Chen a half an hour later as Arsenio stood in the chapel. "I need another Deringer..." "Why yes yes of course but first we must get you some new clothes! Come I have a spare black trench coat in the back come on..."

An hour later Arsenio came back to Victor Chen after a good bath. "A Deringer NOW." "Calm down boy! I'll get you one hold on." Said Victor Chen as he went out of the room.

Ten minutes later Victor Chen came back holding A deringer pistol along with 40 bullets. "Classic Dies Arcanum Deringer pistol able to shoot 8 rounds before reloading not like the old-fashioned 35. revolver." Victor boasted as he gave Arsenio the Deringer and the 40 bullets.

Arsenio loaded up and went to the Tricky Mister for a good cocktail. "Wherever they are I'll get them. I have no intention of killing. I just wanna show what I did came to do." Arsenio said as he put back the picture of "them" back in his pocket and got a good cocktail from the bartender...

Miss Violet Parr shook off Harrelson’s compliment as soon as she heard it. She realised at a very young age that any inflation of the ego would very likely prevent her from attaining any substantial form success or happiness in her life. She was very curious and a little worried at his reference to the African Violet. Very few people knew that it was her most-favoured flower of choice.

Miss Parr was very intrigued by Harrelson’s observant nature, and moreover wondered if he was as alert to his surroundings as she usually was to her own.

“Here we are, Miss Parr.” Harrelson motioned to a door on her right. “The wife of my former employer” he emphasized his words, “waits for you on the other side of this door.” He handed her a key and took a step back. Violet hesitated.

Harrelson continued. “I believe you’ll find Mrs.

She was not trying too hard to make sense of his words as her mind was being occupied with her upcoming course of action.

“Ladies first…”

As soon as her Harrelson bowed, Miss Violet Parr decided it was time for another chaotic moment. She quickly turned the key into the door, took it out of the keyhole, entered the room, and, with a quick reflex, closed the door behind her and locked it twice over. “You will have to excuse me Mr. Harrelson, but I do value my privacy with Mrs. Georges, as you must understand we-”

“OH! Mizz Barrrrr!” Aisha Georges was slumped on the floor of the room, by choice it seemed. She was very surprisingly eager to speak with Violet. “Come, I will tell you all you need to know about thiz matterrrr.”

“Why! Heavens Mrs. Geor-”

“No time to act like a kind little angel… a kidnapperrrr and a Baztarrrrrd you may be, but don’t take yourrrzelf forrr a fool Mizz Barrrr. I took you forrr one long enough!”

Miss Parr’s mind thought fast: It was obvious that Harrelson has reacted very calmly to her sudden actions of betrayal. She felt his presence outside the door as well as, funnily enough, his smile. She turned her attentions to Mrs. Georges, who was uttering her words in rapid chaos, and tried to take control of the situation.

“Mrs. Georges stop talking please and tell me who is this Mr. Harrelson and what is his connection to your husband should there be any in fact?”

“Therrre is a morrre imborrrtant connection herre Mizz Barrrr than Harrrrelzon’z to Frrank’z… Therrre is a verrry good chanze that you and I arrre motherrrr and daughterrr!”

Miss Violet Parr froze for a second. Her thought process stopped, and then her mind decided to stop the fear rising in her heart by telling her a joke through directing her sight towards Mrs. Georges.

Violet took one good look at the vast Mrs. Georges: She lay on the floor, dirty, ridiculous, tired and her breath smelled of alcohol. She carried herself with close to no elegance, manners escaped her and so did any inartificial or artificial beauty. Miss Parr could hardly keep herself from chuckling: “Oh Mrs. Georges! Do not be absurd!”

“I am zorrry dearrr girrrrl, but I waz marrrrying one of the wealthiezt, mozt eztablished men in New York. I had no feelingz for Alberrrrrt, norrrr did I forrr you.”

Miss Parr was dumbfounded.

“I did not hate you orrr anything like that Mizz Barrrr. It iz juzt that yourrr birrrth waz terrrribly comblicated and tirrrsome. It rrrrenderrrred me barrrren. I had no uze forrr a girrrl back then. Frrrank wouldn’t want me az a wife if he knew I labourrred a baztarrrd child. Madhurrri Barrrr seems to have done a betterrrr job with you than I could have everrr done myself.”

Violet recoiled: her face squinted in an attempt to prevent any tears from surfacing.

“Oh you boorrrr girrrrl. I know no one wantz to hearrr thiz in such a horrrrid motel rrrroom: but some of uz juzt arrren’t meant to be motherrrrzz. I told Frrrank many timez to not botherrr with you. ‘She iz juzt a baztarrrrd girrrrl’ I told him, but he wouldn’t have any of it. You zeee me and frrrank don’t have any childrrrren, and he believes Alberrrrt Barrrr will have a legitimate claim thrrrough you to the Georges’ wealth and eztatez.”

Violet Parr struggled to keep her balance.

“Of courrrrze you will zay: ‘But Mizzezz. Georrrrgezzzz, oh but Mizzezz. Georrrrgezzzz, how could I have claim to hizzz forrrrtune in law.’ I DON’T KNOW! You arrre the Lawyerrrr, orrr so we’ve hearrrrd. Frrrrank Georrrrrges hatez you and yourrr fatherrrr. He haz alwayzz been jealouz frrrom Alberrrrt, he wanted me all to himzelf… he couldn’t bearrrrr to think that…”

Mrs. Georges’ voice faded away as Violet Parr turned to the door, unlocked it, and staggered out of the room. She nodded politely to Harrelson who was still standing there "but that was all she remembered from that moment in time.

"Crazy town eh?" said the bartender to Arsenio. Arsenio meerely gave a grin and stepped out of the bar.

"I have to leave this city..." Arsenio said and then made his way to the docks.

"Yes a ticket to London." Arsenio said whispering to avoid any eavesdroppers.

Arsenio knew he was being followed so he decided to give the follower a wrong turn.

Arsenio shouted at the counter. "Thanks for the Ticket to Shanghai!" Arsenio knew now that whoever was following him was now gonna take a wrong turn...

“Back so soon Miss Parr?” whispered Harrelson, a touch of mock surprise in his voice. “ I understand how you feel though.” He leaned forward slightly and said, “That woman seems to have no endearing qualities at all. Such a terribly shrill voice… to quote one of my favorite books ‘She is truly a peacock in everything but beauty.’ I consider myself lucky to have been locked out of the room. This wonderfully thick door was able to drown her in its dense and grainy depths. It was mercifully quiet out here in the hall,” he assured her.

Violet didn’t look as if she was paying any attention to his words or even his presence. She looked to be pale with worry and yet flush with embarrassment all at once. And after speaking a word of murmured thanks in reply, began to slow the pace of her rapid breathing. She took a moment to compose herself and then glanced both directions down the hallway. Her gaze did not seem to be a search for someone; it looked more like, anticipation.

“Well then, it appears that my presence is no longer required.” He checked the watch on his right hand and the hesitated before turning to go. “I know I was not ‘invited’ to this little party of yours, but I have enjoyed myself thoroughly thus far. I imagine that you can handle most any situation all on your own, but if you have need of me, here is where I am staying.” He handed her a small card with neat calligraphy, and turned to leave. “Oh and if you or one of your friends is interested, I will be guest lecturing all this week at the local university. Come and join the fun.”

Somehow Violet knew that the small wicked smile had returned to his face.

Christopher was frantic with worry. He knew that Ran was tailing him, either to make sure that Violet and himself were safe or to spy on them, and he couldn’t decide which was more insulting. He did know however, that he was in no mood to humour him, so he slowed down to a complete before he reached the hotel. Ran then realized that Chris was aware of his presence and had little choice but to slip out of the shadows and face the tall man. Christopher turned around and stared at him unblinkingly until Ran gave a one sided shrug and grinned unrepentantly. He knew Ran meant well but he was more than glad that he appeared to take the hint and head towards the closest bar. Chris immediately picked up his pace and continued on his way to the hotel.

The look he got from the concierge as he entered the motel did nothing to calm his nerves. The gnawing feeling that was growing in the pit of his stomach over the course of the night intensified and his whole body was humming with the force of it. He all but ran to the rooms he rented with Violet. His mind was supplying him with horrendous pictures of his friend hurt or worse in those rooms but nothing could prepare him for what he found when he opened the door after a moment’s hesitation.

The first thing Christopher registered as he opened the door was the sour metallic smell that assaulted his nostrils. He could feel it permeating the air in thick fumes and he had to cover his nose to lessen its effects and he had to fight a wave of nausea that threatened to overwhelm him.
