'Get your hands off me’ Grumbled Chris as he massaged his sore head and approached the people gathered in the alley. He did not seem very concerned that yoyo had a gun at the ready.

'You could've have gotten here sooner you know!' the latter was directed at yoyo with a raised eyebrow. He did acknowledge Ran with a nod and his fellow detective seemed to recognize the apology he could not voice for his harsh words when Ran tried to help him up.

Yoyo seemed to take it in stride and a playful smirk formed on his features. He kept Arsenio in his line of vision and did not lower his revolver but was perfectly capable of bantering with Christopher at the same time.

'Well, I do so appreciate your faith in my abilities but I thought you would be able to take care of him' he motioned to Arsenio carelessly with his other hand as he spoke. 'I was not even following you; someone else had my attention until I heard the commotion here!' You could not wipe the full-on smirk yoyo had on his face by then even if you tried.

Arsenio snorted derisively at the careless mention of his name and Chris smiled sheepishly at yoyo. Christopher did not acknowledge Arsenio except to take his revolver which was now in Ran’s position. He eyed it carefully, aware that yoyo and Ran were eying him suspiciously. He then looked up at Arsenio and was satisfied to watch his eyes widen comically. The atmosphere in the alley seemed to take on a sinister air and all men could feel the tension rising with it. Chris was in Arsenio’s face in a flash and smiled thinly at him, and there was nothing but malice in his eyes. ‘You ever lay your filthy hands on Violet again….’ he whispered in a steely cold voice in Arsenio’s ear. Arsenio could not suppress a shudder at the iciness in Christopher’s tone and did not need to hear the rest of the threat to realize how serious Chris was. He nodded mutely and Chris backed off slightly and his face started to regain some warmth as he turned to address yoyo again.

‘You won’t believe what I’ve been through between baby-sitting an alcoholic old cow which I have kidnapped, and having to deal with this guy trying to play hero’ complained Chris to yoyo. He did not want to share the information he found about Violet. He was very angry at himself for letting his guard down when they left the bar in search of privacy but he has not been able to think straight or concentrate on anything since he got that telegram.

Yoyo and Ran were fighting to hide their smiles and appear sympathetic and understanding instead. They just witnessed an enraged Chris scant moments before and did not care to stir him up. Chris handed the revolver back to Ran.

‘Sorry to dump this on you old friend but I don’t trust myself with him at this point, could you please take care of him for me?’ this he addressed to yoyo who nodded graciously. He thanked both men and apologized for having to depart so soon but he had to catch up with Violet and make sure she was safe not to mention the information he had to share with her.

Chris signed inwardly and hurried into the night.

'You're sure that this is the one?' asked the well-dressed man.

"Ats right, sir." replied the dirty motel handyman. "This one 'ere is her room. She was 'ere not half an hour ago. The lady with the purple fetish, just like you said. Solemn vow, sir." The handyman was trying, quite succesfully, to look anywhere but into the well-dressed man's eyes. "I can I go now, sir? please?"

'Indeed' came the whispered response. He flipped the shabby worker a coin with his left hand and then picked up a large container filled with liquid with his right. 'Yes, by the way' he called after the filthy man slinking away from him.

"Yes what, sir?" he called back without turning around.

'Yes is the answer to your question. The one you were afraid to ask.' He began a slow methodical grin. 'It is illegal.' And with that he used the key he had "borrowed" to unlock the door and enter the room...

He gave Yoyo a clap on the shoulder.

"He is all yours now, try not to loose him. Hate to see him end up on a boat to shanghai, we have enough hoi paloi at the racetrack as it is."

Then he slowly walked along the street trailing after Chris and Violet from an extended distance. Maybe he should stop to get a drink before too long.

He closed the door and quickly re-locked it. A glance to the bed told him that this was indeed the right room. There lay Aisha Georges, with all the delicacy of a pot-bellied pig, snoring like there was no tomorrow.

With practiced grace and efficiency he opened the container and began to pour it evenly over the floor, letting it soak into as much of the carpet as he could cover. As his task neared completion he splashed what was left on to Georges' slumbering body soaking her and the bed she occupied. 'Wake Up Mrs. Georges!'

She reacted slowly, somehow flailing in slow-motion. "Whoo!? What? What now miz Barrr?" she shreiked finally sitting up and seeing the other person in the room. She used her hands to try and steady her as she spoke, though it did little or no help in her condition. Eventually, her eyes came into focus on the intruder and she gasped in suprise. "Mr. Harrrrelzon! Yoou've come to rreleaze me and punizsh that bastarrrrd girrrrl!"

'Hardly, Mrs. Georges.' Harrelson began to grin as he spoke, 'You see madame, you're husband was rather short-sighted when he paid me for this job.'

An odd blend of confusion, anger, and outright terror contorted her face. She was frozen in silence, the fear dripping off her as tangibly as the liquid he had just splashed her with.

'My instructions were to "Keep an eye on you." I have done so.' He spoke with measured tones absent of emotion, 'And I have done quite well in my opinion, considering what has befallen you.'

He dragged the only chair in the barren room toward the dusty lamp on the bedstand. He then placed four thick peices of rubber underneath each of the chair legs before he sat down, pulled out a copy or "The Picture of Dorian Grey", and continued speaking in his easy manner. 'I have already sent word to your husband through certain channels notifying him where you are.'

Although there was no notible change of expression his eyes seemed to harden as he spoke. 'But now my job is over, and the fun is about to begin.' After that a small smile began to creep up into his lips. It never touched his eyes.

'Curiosity, Mrs. Georges, is such a wonderfully interesting motivator. Don't you agree? He looked up from his reading to find that she had fainted. 'Bah, she'll miss the best part!'

Miss Violet Parr was practically saved by the gallant Ran, and the even more courageous Yoyo. She knew Christopher would be safe with these two men around. As soon as Ran escorted her to the very likely exit, she proceeded to leave the melancholic alleyway with quick and steady steps.

She had only twenty minutes before Aisha Georges would wake from her sedative. Miss Parr had to act quickly and reach the disoriented Mrs. Georges before the woman would regain any sense of balance or mental stability.

The night was dark and chilly. Violet Parr tightened her violet scarf around her neck and looked behind shoulders to see if Christopher, Yoyo or Ran had finished with Arsenio and managed to catch up with her, but it seemed she was only being followed by her shadow and the unqualified silence of the night.

Miss Parr entered her motel, smiled vaguely at receptionist and concierge and immediately made her way with haste to her room, just managing not to run. She turned her key into the door as she removed her violet scarf and shook her long dark hair free. Violet took a deep breath as she entered her motel room.

The silence of the room suggested that Aisha Georges was still in a deep trance or sleep, the reality was, however, that she had vanished.

Violet Parr opened her mouth to let out a silent scream. She scanned the room with her scrutinising sight once more, but sure enough no one was there: Aisha Georges had practically disappeared.

All of the sudden Miss Parr felt a certain heat: a presence in her room. She slowly turned, sure enough, a man she never saw before stood there behind her.

Violet Parr opened her mouth to scream, but then, against her better judgment, decided against doing that.

'Wonderful to finally meet you Miss...?' He was an average-looking man. Not to tall, or overly short, he was neither plump nor in desperate need of food. Nothing was remarkable about him from his sandy brown hair down to his slighty awkward stance. Until, as he finished speaking, his lips curved slighty upward. As the corners of his mouth made their ascent his eyes began to sparkle with equal parts intelligence and mischief.

'That was his distinguishing feature' thought Violet Parr, though she hadn't decided if it carefree and excited or exceedingly dangerous and cruel. She wasn't sure that he had decided either. The look of shock on her face began to melt away as her entire body slowly relaxed. She would not let this newcomer get in her way, not after how very far she had come.

'Calm yourself miss, I have no wish to harm you, but if you'll take a moment to mind your surroundings' he waved his hand in a smooth gesture indicating the damp, empty bed and the soaking floor, 'you will see that the situation is still a bit out of your control.' He paused for a moment and took a step to make sure that his back was to the wall and not the door.

Violet stiffened but still did not say anything in return. Defiance burned within her, but she was not without caution when it was needed. Even if he was physically underwelming, the man in front of her was clearly dangerous and was obviously in posession of information she needed.

'My name is Harrelson.' His voice sounded as if it were out for a sunday stroll. 'I've been following you and Mrs Georges since the night of the party on behest of Mr Georges. He knows about this room and has dispatched others here in search of you and the old cow.'

Violet began to shake visably, but there was no fear in her eyes.

'Such a quick temper.' He scolded softly. 'They will not find her here. And they will not find you either... if you can bring yourself to trust me.' His singular grin returned as he continued. 'She is bound and in a room down the hall. All you need do is follow me. Your choice.'

He turned his back to her and calmly walked through the door. 'Oh and don't worry about your room and it's interesting condition. I want the men Georges sent to enjoy the gift I left for them and would hate for someone to ruin their little "suprise."

Harrelson grinned to himself. 'Curiousity is such a wonderfully interesting motivator.' he murmered to no one in particuar.
