How probable is this to happen? It happened to me once on Intermediate, got lucky that the one who died was one of the only two left who could have 'dunnit'.

But, I think I just got lucky-how probable is it for this to cause me inconvenience?

One other thing that's helpful to keep in mind about this is that if a person dies with PE (or WE) against them you know that that person MUST have a real alibi. Very useful in instances when someone kicks before you have a full list of who's fake and who's real, when townies clam, etc.
