I have advanced thread analysis, but have found that at some crime scenes, I do not get the information if the thread belongs to a male or female. Is this normal, or is it a glitch?

It is normal, whether you analyse the evidence is determined on your Smart adjustment equipment, and the level of the case. It is also randomised.

Yes. The higher your smart adjustment from equipment is, the more likely you are to analyse the thread. It is otherwise pretty much random.

Even as a Smart archetype, and somewhere around +18 in smarts clothes, there are still times when I can't get information about a piece of evidence found at the crime scene.
