For those who like to tell stories. The idea is to take a given sentence and use it as the opening to a story that you write - but your story must be fifty words or less (not including the original sentence).

She had eyes to drown in.

Soft blue eyes had taken his breath away. He was going to tell her something, but he couldn't remember what he was going to say. Then, he remembered, he needed to tell her about her brother.

"What happened?" She asked.

He said, "I hate to be the bearer of bad news."

She thought the worst of her fears might have come true.

He'd found her. She had traveled as far as her limited funds would allow, taking only small things that could be sold as needed.

The persistent knocking continued. Best not to take chances; grab the pouch of small, valuable items, climb down the fire escape.

The grocer kept knocking, puzzled.

In answer to someone's question, no, this doesn't have to be a running story. You can continue on from the last person, if you like, but it isn't required.

The night air was shattered by a piercing cry.

The night air was shattered by a piercing cry.

The mother rocked her crying baby back and forth. She was tired and fustrated. She had tried everything she knew. Nothing worked. Hearing the shuffing footsteps in the hall she rearranged the baby in her arms.

"Here honey .. let me have the baby" Her husband reaches for the baby boy.

Suddenly there was silence.

let's assume the next 50 words begins with: suddenly there was silence.

Suddenly there was silence.

Well, except for the sound of mum winding down her window.

'Who was that?', coughed Dad.

'Not me!' was the united response from the back seat.

Mum sighed.

'It was the dog', someone offered.

'We don't have a ...', Dad began.

A chorus of 'Woofs' greeted him.

The car slowed down ... and silence resumed.

I used to love the circus.

The clowns made me laugh, the acrobats took my breath away. And above all I loved the animals.
But one day the tallest elephant refused to kneel down. His master pitched a hook into his trunk and pulled until he finally obeyed.
I never went to circus again.

The sound of footsteps was muffled by the fog.

They had followed him out to the docks? What did they want? He must hide!

He found a ladder and lowered himself carefully into the water. With a straw found earlier, he'd be able to breathe. Then he felt a tap on his shoulder.

The grinning diver held a knife.

Who had murdered the elderly gardener? She was sprawled in the mulch, something gripped in her hand. The detective pried it open and found half a luxurious, black moustache. The detective gasped, shocked. He couldn't believe it!

Had it really been Hercule Poirot that had murdered poor Miss Marple?

I've always wanted to visit exotic places. But this latex luau with its pin-up palm trees and Wal-Mart poy smacked more of patio furniture than the life I had wanted. Think maybe I'll skip my 20th high school reunion, they only point up my supreme failures.

As if the red cheeks and awkward "Hey, remember when" stories weren't bad enough, I was pretty sure I'd paid up front for the grass skirt.

He said his name was Ray Parker Junior. But I doubted it. When I casually slipped into our somewhat stilted conversation that I wasn't 'afraid of no ghosts', he just stared at me blankly and shook his head a little. Then again, I was pretty sure Ray Parker Jr wasn't white, and I was pretty sure he wouldn't be working for the DMV.

I knew I was onto something when I busted my best move and asked, "Who you gonna call?" and he answered "Security".

You can never find a parking spot when you need one. I will have to carry four baskets of laundry clear across the parking lot praying the blustery winds won't take my unmentionables sailing into the summer skies.
