Hello, fellow Sleuths!

Over the last two months, I've been working on a brand new Sleuth helper. You might not think that sounds all that special - after all, great helpers are already available - but what makes this one different is that it's automated!

What it does is monitor your progress in the game, and extract relevant information from the pages. The information is stored and analyzed, in order to help you determine who did it, and who didn't.

It's heavily inspired by Evita's JavaScript-based Sleuth Helper, so a special "thank you" goes out there.

The application is made with Delphi 2005, and should run on any machine with Windows NT/98/ME/2K/XP/Vista and Internet Explorer 4 or later. Additionally, source code is included (ZLib license) in case someone wants to port it to another platform and/or language (such as Java).

The program can be downloaded from http://download.birdiesoft.dk/SleuthHelper.exe (330 KB), and a screenshot of the program can be seen at http://download.birdiesoft.dk/sleuth_helper.png.

Please take a look at the help file before using the program (it's very short), so you are familiar with how the program works.

(Disclaimer: The application depends heavily on the current structure of the game pages, and changes to this may break the program. Although the application is designed in such a way that it should fail entirely if something goes wrong, this cannot be guaranteed. Use of this program is entirely at your own risk, and any cases lost because of errors in the program should not be blamed on the program or the author.)

Note that the "must have loaded" applies to pretty much ALL pages, not just the ones that bring up an error - in fact, it's usually the other way around, as the error-causing pages will often be relying on some information the helper couldn't pick up earlier (because a page didn't finish loading).

Based on what you're telling me, though, it sounds like the helper wasn't aware of whom you were talking to - it uses the Map screen (or case file) to get his internal ID (from the game), and uses this as a reference when you're talking to him. However, if the Map screen never finished loading between the time you heard of him and the time you went to see him, it didn't have a chance to pick up his ID, and will therefore fail when it tries to figure out which suspect you're talking to.

Ok, I got it. Then I'll wait longer on the map screen. Thanks..

Awesome program. I just managed to download it. By the way, if you wish I could mirror the program for you for a while. I may have to drop it if the bandwidth gets extreme or something, but it's a small enough file that I don't see it being a problem.

Right - sorry for the delay, but I've been ill, and haven't been able to finish up before now.

With that said, though, version 1.10 is now out and available at http://download.birdiesoft.dk/SleuthHelper.exe. This new versions adds a bunch of new things, such as support for lockpicking (known from the beta), automated login, PM handling, and automatic update checking.

For details on auto-login, and complete changelog, read the help file.

I've also added an extra mirror for the program, located at http://n-touch.dk/download/SleuthHelper.exe. The automatic update checker will fallback to this if it can't access the primary location. However, if you're downloading this update manually, please try the primary host before using this one.

Ciara: I'm sorry, but I've no idea what you just said.

Everyone else: I've just updated it to version 1.11, which changes the way pop-ups are dealt with and makes the new Sleuth Mail appear correctly.

Those of you who have already updated to 1.10 should receive a prompt to update the next time you start the helper, everyone else can use the URLs above to download it.

Just updated from 1.10 to 1.11. Went to start it up, and got this error message.

SleuthHelper.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point CoInternetIsFeatureEnabled could not be located in the dynamic link library URLMON.DLL.

That would be the pop-up blocker, though I was certain it was supposed to not complain if it wasn't available (if you don't have IE7 or Windows XP SP2 installed).

I'll fix it ASAP. It should be checking for updates BEFORE it gets to this part, so you should get the update.

v1.12 is up and fixes the pop-up blocker. Sorry for the problem.

The same URLs apply for those of you that are having trouble.

did not check for updates before that screen popped up. I did, however, uninstall and re-download the program. Works like a champ now. This really is a great program, Pidgeot. Job well done.
