Hello, fellow Sleuths!

Over the last two months, I've been working on a brand new Sleuth helper. You might not think that sounds all that special - after all, great helpers are already available - but what makes this one different is that it's automated!

What it does is monitor your progress in the game, and extract relevant information from the pages. The information is stored and analyzed, in order to help you determine who did it, and who didn't.

It's heavily inspired by Evita's JavaScript-based Sleuth Helper, so a special "thank you" goes out there.

The application is made with Delphi 2005, and should run on any machine with Windows NT/98/ME/2K/XP/Vista and Internet Explorer 4 or later. Additionally, source code is included (ZLib license) in case someone wants to port it to another platform and/or language (such as Java).

The program can be downloaded from http://download.birdiesoft.dk/SleuthHelper.exe (330 KB), and a screenshot of the program can be seen at http://download.birdiesoft.dk/sleuth_helper.png.

Please take a look at the help file before using the program (it's very short), so you are familiar with how the program works.

(Disclaimer: The application depends heavily on the current structure of the game pages, and changes to this may break the program. Although the application is designed in such a way that it should fail entirely if something goes wrong, this cannot be guaranteed. Use of this program is entirely at your own risk, and any cases lost because of errors in the program should not be blamed on the program or the author.)

That would be fairly hard, since they don't seem to follow any specific order on the suspect list. I'll try to look into at least making a way of manually ordering the suspects, however.

Okay, so all the free webhosts hate me :(

I've rehosted the zip on an old website of mine. It should be fine to download from there:

pidgeot, is there a way you can make it an option to manually put in the info, because i find i do cases faster if i don't have to put it in manually as i easily get distracted.

If you want to put in the info manually, I recommend using Evita's helper instead, but I can look into doing it in the helper as well. Might take some time, though.

First .. I love the automated .. some very cool stuff. I had a few suggestions/requests:

Can a Symbol or field be added for clammed up? It would save time not asking them stuff.

A note box where we can just type in random stuff would be nice.

A box that would remind you to do a favor or "little job". Since these are based on cases comleted (I think favor is one every 4 if I recall). It'd be nice to have a visual remind to make sure you are doing them.

Money display. I missed being able to see Larry the Toe cause I bought a tip in the case. So something to tell you how much money you have would be awesome.

A box showing my current gear points would be great. After a favor when I'm offered something, I need to know value of what I'm holding. (e.g. 10-4-3) Currently I keep it written down but a box on the screen would be forever accurate.

The helper seems to die when I use my contact to answer many questions. Is there a way you can fix that?

Thank you Pidgeot for all your hard work. I love using this program.
Is there a way to record the "no alibi (false)" if you use lockpicking and get the found nothing important text without having to reask the suspect?

Right, sorry for the delay, everyone - I've been pretty busy. I'm planning to work on finalizing version 1.10 tomorrow, which will contain a lot of updates.

To take the suggestions/comments one at a time:

Clamming: I don't see a way to accurately detect if someone really clammed or not.

Notebox: I'm planning to do this later.

Favor reminder: I don't have a way of getting the internal "case counter", so I can't know when favors are due - and if you close the program, it will believe it's starting from scratch again.

Money display: It's hard for me to detect all the places you spend money, as well as how much. I'll look into it, but that might take quite a bit of time.

Gear points: I've actually thought about this today myself, and will put it in 1.10.

Amanda: You might be moving too quickly for the helper to keep up; it can't read info until the page is fully loaded, and therefore you might have been asking about something the helper doesn't recognize. If that's not it, I'll need more details, as I haven't experienced it myself.

AuroraRose: I can tell you're using the beta that's been floating around, and that one should really be doing it already. I don't currently know why that doesn't happen, but I'm aware of the bug, and I'll fix it as soon as I can. As a workaround, I believe you can check their case file afterwards and let the helper pick up on it that way.

Hi - Got a problem with you fantastic Sleuth Helper. I go to my detective page and an access violation message comes up -

Access violation at address 0040297D in module 'sleuthhelper.exe'. read of address 008991E8

Downloaded it again from your site but still get the same message. Any ideas? Thanks.
