I love the research skill, too! That and the stress detect. That is a cool skill!! You can tell when someone is getting ready to clam and then really choose that last question carefully, in case you cannot influence them to sing a bit longer.
The pick locks is cool too, except when you get info that you already have. This seems to happen when a suspect would give you more suspects who are already known to you - as each suspect is fingered by 2 others, or so seems to be the case.
Seems to also be 2 witnesses and a killer, for a total of 3 possible pieces of pe (physical evidence)? Correct me if I am mistaken here. Perhaps it varies with the difficulty levels as well? One piece leads to the killer and 1 piece to each witness. I think the Beginner level only has pe for the killer and the Easy level for 1 witness and the killer. So that if you only find 1 piece of pe on Easy or above, it may not necessarily difinitively finger your killer?
Oops! I got off topic. Sorry. I'll post it in a different thread. lol

As you are a fairly new player. I would not focus on those skills yet. Get your rule bending/sweet talking/analyze evidence first.
My favourite skill is the research one. It knocks one suspect with no or fake alibi off your list. Other people have other favourite skills though, so I am sure not the authority.
