There are a number of ways: get it for doing favors for townies, purchase it from a faction, join an agency and borrow from your new friends and colleagues, gain experience and win it for doing almost impossible cases and villain hunts.

I'm just a newbie myself, so I am sure I am missing some ways.

You got pretty much all of them Joshua.

Yeah. Don't buy detective shop equipment. It's really not that good, and it's overpriced.

At the begining, I wouldn't be too afraid to buy the Detective Shop gear. If nothing else, it covers your chicken legs :)

Seriously though, any edge you can give yourself, go ahead. When you start doing townie jobs the gear comes rolling in and the stuff you bought earlier is easily sold. Yeah the stuff in the shop is kind of pricey but honestly, I never missed the scratch and was always happy to have the gear.

And finally, dear Lady, the final three places where you can get items of aparreil:

Firstly, Fat Lucy's cabaret sells random items and is not to be overlooked. Secondly, the most spiffy clothing is given by the Prince of Shangri-la as a reward for catching a villain. Finally, the ultimate items of Sleuth clothing are items individually designed by Ben himself for services to Sleuth. These are tailor made and are the badge of honour for those who are the Mycroft of consulting detectives.

You can also get one or two items from featured mysteries - the Doomsayers trilogy is a good example.

Happy hunting, dear Lady,

Fiddler
