Announcing the First Annual Sleuther's Convention:

SLEUTHCON I

Who? You
When? June 15-17, 2007
Where? Best Western Lakeside, Orlando (Kissimmee), FL
What? The cost for attending will be $125. This does not include your room, but does include meals (Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner on Saturday and Breakfast on Sunday) and activities. Rooms will be $69.00 per night booked in advance through the hotel. Simply tell the booking agent that you are attending SleuthCon I.

Activities/Events:

The evening of June 15th will essentially be a chance for people to get checked in and organized. It will also serve as a time for introducing ourselves to each other.

Saturday the 16th will be the main day of activities including a treasure hunt and concluding with a mystery dinner theater. There will be door prizes as well as other prize categories to be announced, such as farthest distance traveled to attend. Sunday will conclude the event with breakfast and gathering in the meeting room to hand out the last prizes and say our farewells.

As the event approaches I will have more detail on activities and prizes. I highly recommend booking early as the rooms will fill fast. Comments and suggestions will be duly noted and possibly used. :)

Hotel info is here:

http://www.bestwesternlakeside.com/

It is best to call them as you will need to tell them you are attending SleuthCon I to get the reduced rate.

We will have it set up soon to take payments to reserve your spot at the convention. I will update here as soon as I have the particulars.

MMm.. from what I understand Ben and Sunny have expressed an interest in coming.. as of right now thought we are unsure of thier attendance. It is going to be great... Rhiemma Moon has put alot of work into this convention .. so a big thanks to her. :)

We are still working on the treasure hunt for the event. It isnt going to be exactly like here where you have to solve cases. It will be going on during the convention, mostly on Saturday. As of right now the treasure hunt is only for those who attend the convention. It should be fun.

The location of the hotel is great. There are restraunts, clothing shops, and tourist shops all around the hotel. Inside the hotel you can get information about the parks and I think even purchase the tickets. It is farly close to Disney. Oh and the breakfast buffet is great. (they have an omlet station. a bread station.. fruit... pastries...cereal...eggs.. bacon.. ect.. you get the ides.) There are three pools.. play areas for the kids. They have a deli and a pizza hut inside the hotel. And mini golf..complimentary for those staying at the hotel. There is also Miniture golf in the area if you wanted to get a different enviroment.

Ummm.. okay that is all I can think of right now.. If anyone has any questions.. you can pm me and i will try and answer. If I am unable to answer then i will find out for you.. smiles.. hope everyone gets to come.

Thank you, Breit, for fielding that for me. :) yes, I do have Ben's approval. I would not have posted it here if I didn't. As I have only spoken with him, I will dare to assume that this includes Sunny's approval. The event, the meals, and the rooms are confirmed. I am confirming the Mystery Dinner Theater today, hopefully. It is nearly guaranteed, but I will not say it is until that contract is in my hand also.

The treasure hunt is still in the developmental stage and is being handled by someone else. I'll let her give some idea of what that will entail. She is my 'local' agent as she lives in the area.

Pretty much everything else, you can ask me. I'm the one to blame for this thing. :) And you can take it out on me by showing up in person in Florida in June.

If I pay 12 cases will it get me there? I think I have a favor for the concierge in Orlando.

I know the first ever Sleuthcon will be wonderful and lots of fun. I hope many of you attend. Unfortunately, I will be in my seventh month of pregnancy and will not be attending. It is also the same weekend as a big walk-a-thon/fun-run I plan here in Seattle. However, I expect to hear many reports and see many, many pictures!

Thanks Rhiemma Moon and others for planning this!

Sleuthcon sounds great. Will there be a prize for the acency with the most detectives in attendance?

That is a very good suggestion for a prize category. Thank you, Flo. :) Since agencies are so varied in number of members, though, I think that it would be better as a percentage of members present. Thoughts?

And Sunny, you are so welcome. I wish you could be there, but I most certainly understand why you can't. :) There will be lots of info shared and pics galore!

We'll get a website up and ready so that people can see what's happening as we go. With free wireless available, I can upload pics daily. :)

For those who want to communicate via email regarding this event, you can send questions, etc to Sleuth_Con@yahoo.com . Or, by all means, ask here. Your questions here may spark others to ask other questions. :)

just realized a percentage of members present gives the advantage to smaller agencies rather than leveling the playing field. I'll give it some thought.

maybe both categories, absolute number AND percentage.

Can we have a costume ball with period costume?
