I would say to check out the newbies forum. When I started about nearly 3 months ago, it was a big help. If you get stuck on something, post a descriptive subject so people will know what you are posting about.

Another help was doing the tutorial on the case page for new people.

If you want PMs, make sure you pop-up blocker is off. I forgot yesterday and I guess missed some messages because when I looked, it said 5 pop-ups were blocked and I got the "Are you ignoring me" message. I have forgotten a few other times but I don't want to completely disable it...just for Sleuth.

I also suggest looking at the HELP in the upper right corner, and reading the Welcome Newbies thread. That thread covers just about everything you need to know about how to play sleuth.

Once you are in the position to buy equipment at the detective store (just need enough cash) go first for items that support your chrachter (smart and charming)

I diasagree gotz. Get your equipment from favours. It's free.
Also there are a number of good sites around the community which are useful for new comers.

Oh yeah, NEVER buy equipment from the detective shop. Total waste of money--they are overpriced, and add very little to your smart/charm/tough bonus. Equipment from favours is much more powerful and valuable.
