Cool Mickey by Jim Sukach.
Dr. J. L. Quick solve was packing his things on his last day in Beverly Hills. He was anxious to get back to his family. He was just locking his suitcase when his friend, Fred Fraudstop, walked in.

"A young woman, Betty Finn, who had a life insurence policy from me has died," he said. "I t looks like she may have been murdered by her best freind right in her own apartment."

"Did she have a fight with this friend?" asked Quicksolve.

"The police say the can't find any evidence of a fight or any motive. That's what puzzles them."

Whose name was on the policy as beneficiary?"

"Her husband of course, but he was out at the time."

"How was she killed?"

"Poison"

"Let's go talk to this friend." Quicksolve said.

Ahh, good old lateral thinking puzzles. There are a couple of old threads in this board which we used to do these on:

Mr. Fraudstop introduced himself and Quicksolve. Then he asked if they could ask her a few questions. She was obviously upset about what had happened, but she said yes, she would be glad to answer questions. She let them in and began talking.

"I don't know how she was poisoned. I just know that I didn't do it," Mary Scapegoat told them.

"Just tell me what happened," Quicksolve said

"Betty, her husband Mickey, and I were at their house. Mickey went to the kithcen to make drinks for us. When he brought them out, he took a long sip of Betty's drink just before he gave it to her. She complained and said he gave her too much ice to begin with and then he had the nerve to drink some of hers. He laughed and said he was going to get some beer. Then he left. He'd been gone about ten or fifteen mintutes when she collasped and fell to the floor..."

(Wonders how people people come up with solutions before they here the whole story then continues..)

".. I couldn't wake her, so I called an ambulance. Mickey came home just as the ambulance pulled away. I think he poisoned her, but I can't prove it, especially since I saw him drink from her glass. I was the last one with her, so I was arrested. I didn't do it, and I'm willing to take a lie detector test!"

isn't it possible that he put it in her drink as he was drinking it?

The poison was in the ice. He took a drink before the poison had melted.

Wrong Ara, and I'll tell you why.

I totally consulted my magic 8 ball on this and asked if it was in fact Colonel Mustard in the Kitchen with the Candlestick, and it said "Outlook blurry, try again later".

Proof positive. :)
