I am not subscribed and was wondering how I can get a contact? Is there a way to get contacts without subscribing or am I kidding myself?

Nope you can get contacts even though you're not subbed.

You just have to do the favours that come around every 4 cases you do. (thats 4 successful solves - 4 normal cases or 3 normals + the previous favour case) Then eventually instead of the favour item you would normally win you will have a towny become your contact.

I definitely got the Music Teacher - my first contact in New York - as an unsubbed player.

(ok and I'm not delusional just slightly schizophrenic - the music teacher contact was as Secret_Squirrel, in case anyone decided to check my contacts list)
