At risk of repeating myself:

You cannot form or join ANY agency at all unless you have paid for a game subscription.

In other words, YES, you have to "be subscribed", "buy a membership", "sign up" or whatever other combination of words you would prefer to use to mean "pay money for premium content".

You can find out how to do this here:

http://noir.playsleuth.com/detective/subscribe.spy

This is a game rule, and not one made or enforced by agency directors, so asking nicely (while very sweet) won't help, no matter how eager you are or how much you love the game.

I promise, you'll like it even more with a subscription! So first get one, THEN start asking if you can join a particular agency. There's always lots of people looking for new talent - but no-one's interested in you until you subscribe.

Happy Sleuthing!

I'd love to believe that the majority of the posts saying that it was unfair that you need to be sub'd were wind ups but i think we all know they're not.

Personally I was wondering how the agency system works - i.e. I ask to join an agency, get invited and accept - whats next? What are the benefits to me and what are the benefits to the directors of the agency by inviting me?

The benefits for you:

You can participate in treasure hunts.
You can get help on cases were you are stuck.
You can meet new people who you may never have spoken to if it wasn't for the agency.
You can use a crime lab with the help of another person.
If you are a role player there are many agencies who like role play. If you don't like role play there also many agencies who don't.
You can share cases with each other.
You can get the full benefit of help from more experienced members of Sleuth.

The benefits to the directors/agencies:

They have someone who can help treasure hunt which in turn gives them money and fame.
You can help them rise on the agency high score list.
They have someone who can help with newer sleuthers in the future.
They may gain contacts in the agency that they needed.

The list goes on and I'm sure I missed a lot out what with it being 4am for me :), but I hope that helps some.

Am I the only unsubscribed player who would just like to say thank you?
I'm not new to rpg, so it doesn't suprise me that you must pay for those lil extra's. It good that someone has taken the time to tell us so we don't waste time trying to join agencies whilst unsubscribed. Isn't it?

No, you haven't been the only unsub to say it, but you are in the minority. It is nice to hear it, so THANK YOU, Miss. Silver!! ;-D

I would just like to ask, can you be a leader of a group without subscribing? I.e., the Consiglere of La Cosa Nostra

*Smacks forehead* This isn't the right place to be posting this; but... yes theoretically you could although it would be more difficult.

It takes more time and more luck to do it, but yes, unsubbeds have been leaders of the NY factions before.

Hello, Golden Eye!
I saw your detective page, and it says you are unsuscribed now. (On Jan 30.) That might be your bug. To join an agency, you have to be subscribed like Crunchpatty said.
Hope you get it.
