If a suspect does not have any traits that match any of the evidence, he/she cannot be the guilty one.

Serges' Laws Of Min/Maxing

1. If you have maximum evidence and minimum suspects for any case (tested for IH and above) each suspect with an alibi will match EXACTLY one piece of evidence. Ex. AI case, 4 evidence, 10 suspects.

2. If above is true and an alibi suspect can only match one piece of evidence, they MUST match that evidence. Ex. Left-handed Slim Woman with straight hair & alibi, evidence is 2 Heavy Footprints, straight hair and curly hair... that suspect has to match the straight hair by process of elimination.

Not sure I get what you said serge. Every suspect CAN only match one alibi, no matter what the numbers are....

I *think* that what he means as that every piece of evidence MUST macth a person and one person only, regardless of alibi.

I think Serges is refering to people with real alibi's (operative word being think.. I could be wrong and indeed I often am).

When you have the maxumim PE but the minimum suspects each person with a real alibi will always match up with one of the PE, leaving only the PE left by the killer.

e.g on an AI case with 4PE and 10 suspects there will only ever be 3 people with real alibis. As only 1 person with a fake alibi can leave PE it follows that all of the 3 real alibi suspects must match with a PE.

Exactly that, Geddes. When you have x alibis and x+1 pieces of evidence, it follows that all your alibi suspects must match a piece of evidence, which then gives you more statistically sound options when trying to narrow down the "killer" evidence.

Now, when you have X alibis and X pieces of evidence, there will be one alibi suspect who doesn't match ANY evidence (a red herring, so to speak) which makes things more difficult to discern.

I think the confusion is because you say 'X alibis' to mean 'X real alibis'.
