What is the bank vault for? I've never used it in a case, and if you try to go in, the guy just kicks you out. Also, when do end up talking to the shady character in the Tricky Mister? I've never talked to him either, except for the scene cuts.

The bank vault is related to the safecraking skill.
If you haven't this skill, the bank vault isn't usefull, and this skill is usefull only at the end of a treasure hunt(so only if you are suscribed and in an agency)
The shady allow you to remove your false accuse.
- If you haven't any false he will not answer to you
- If you have one false he will answer and you could pay him to remove false if it was interresting.
- If you have 2 false, you MUST pay shady. (why? see below)
- If you have 3 false, say bye bye to your detective, he is retired...
