The more experience you have the further between the skill points come - all the way up to where it takes about 50,000 exp. points to get 1 skill point. You've probably just passed the point where you get 2 skill points for 160 exp. (= really hard) to where it changes to 1 for every 160 or 2 for 320 exp. (= really really hard). If you did a really hard case now, you'd only get 1 skill point for solving it :)
