Why are my politics points decreased by 1 every time I log in?

Your faction points decrease each day at midnight server time when you're above 10 - it's a way of ensuring that you can change faction relatively easy as well as giving more players a chance of reaching the top spot :)

Because that's how it works. When you get to higher standings (over 40, I think?) your standing can decrease by more than one point. It's to give people a fighting chance to become the high scorer of their faction each day.
