Can I control what item I get from a favor? i.e. all of my detective's boxes are filled EXCEPT shoes, will I get shoes as a favor item? If all my boxes are filled, will I get anything?

And yes, if you are completely geared up, you'll still receive a favour item. You'll be given the choice to either sell the new item or one of your own items, OR to put one of the items into your agency equipment locker (if you belong to an agency).
