You can do "little odd jobs" for la cosa nostra or any of the other factions, by visiting their headquarters, clicking on the option, and heading to the townie they direct you too. Once with the townie, there will be an option to get information for La Cosa Nostra (or whoever), you will then be given a series of questions to answer about mystery novels/short stories, if you get enough correct your ranking with La Cosa Nostra will go up.

You get contacts the way Belle Star mentioned, and the time you get them is random. It is easier to get a contact if you aren't trying to get anyone in particular.

If you can't get a suspect's alibi, you can't check it and so you shouldn't accuse them. If you are consistently having difficulty getting alibis, you might be playing at too hard a level - try going for easier cases until you build up better interviewing skills and some experience.

That's a really hard question for us to answer without knowing a) the difficulty of case you are working on, and b) how many of the alibis you HAVE managed to find are fakers. If you have established that some of the people on your list have fake aibis, I'd suggest trying to find either witness evidence (WE) or physical evidence (PE) against those people. Ignore the person whose alibi you haven't been able to check, and don't ever accuse anyone unless you are completely, 100%, grade-A beefy POSITIVE that they have a fake alibi or no alibi, AND that they have at least one piece of evidence pointing at them. The ONLY exception to this is if you have TWO witnesses telling you that they suspect someone of the murder.

Say it with me, sleuthville:

WE + fake/no alibi = guilty
PE + fake/no alibi = guilty
2WE = guilty

If you aren't completely sure you have one of those 3 scenarios, just quit the case, and live to sleuth again tomorrow.

If a person's alibi is real, they didn't commit the crime. If someone gives you witness evidence on a person whose alibi is real, it can't be right. If all of your suspects and the townies are clammed, there's pretty much nothing you can do. Are all the other townies clammed up? You might want to ask them if they've heard anything about the case. If you get new suspects, ask them about the other suspects; you shouldn't have to worry about motives too much. It looks like you have quite a lot of fake alibis and no alibis already. Hope this helps!
