You earn money by solving cases ( ofcourse), unless its an almost impossible case, but u dont have to worry about that right now.
When you successfully solve a favor, a townie will reward you with gear. If u dont want that particular item he/she isoffering, then you can sell it, and that will get you extra money. That's also what gets you the most money, selling items from favors.
If u subscribe, you can visit Shanghai, and take a chance at gambling at the race track. You may hit the jackpot there, too, for extra money.
Since u are new, you may want to visit the Newbie section of this message board, and read "Welcome Newbies" thread (i think thats what its called), it gives alot of useful information, plus you may want to read through that particular section for any other questions you may have. It may have already been talked about :)
