Greyling

I've been speculating about this one lately and couldn't find a good topic to add my question to so here goes.

When viewing Judge of Character and opting for either ex. Interrogation or Sweet Talking, is the likelihood of success of the one chosen based on just the total stats (advanced skill adjustment, item bonus, etc.) on that single skill itself set against some randomly generated chance number/variable, or does it take the opposing skill total into account as well?

I've been leaning towards the latter and therefore haven't gotten Pugilism, because I was worried that adding that to my tough qualities would affect my charm adjustment negatively and lower the chance of a successfull outcome. But I'm not sure this is actually right and wonder if I've actually just decreased my tough chances by not having it?

Greyling - I got puglism not so long ago. I didnt notice any problems with my charm skills. I still mainly use sweet talking. But with female townies I might go tough.
