I've been speculating about this one lately and couldn't find a good topic to add my question to so here goes.

When viewing Judge of Character and opting for either ex. Interrogation or Sweet Talking, is the likelihood of success of the one chosen based on just the total stats (advanced skill adjustment, item bonus, etc.) on that single skill itself set against some randomly generated chance number/variable, or does it take the opposing skill total into account as well?

I've been leaning towards the latter and therefore haven't gotten Pugilism, because I was worried that adding that to my tough qualities would affect my charm adjustment negatively and lower the chance of a successfull outcome. But I'm not sure this is actually right and wonder if I've actually just decreased my tough chances by not having it?

I think what you are getting at Greyling is:

"If I have a high tough score will it help my Sweet Talking final number?"

The answer to that is no, just as Crunch displayed with his numbers. You get the final score and can choose which option to use, the tough or charm. They operate independantly of each other.

And along with what Ben said about "exceptional successes" there are "exceptional failures" also where you will fail even with a very high score. At least that is my observed results.

Greyling - I got puglism not so long ago. I didnt notice any problems with my charm skills. I still mainly use sweet talking. But with female townies I might go tough.
