This is a very simple and fun game. The first person makes a wish, and each following person finds some way to corrupt the wish and then makes a new wish. For example:

Person 1. I wish I had a dog

Person 2. You have a dog, but it dies the day after you get it

I wish I had a muffin

Person 3: You get a muffin, but you drop it and have to throw it away.

And so on.

Your firt wish to corrupt is this:

I wish I had a new car.

Hey presto - you have a clone. The clone is so successful in replacing you at work that your boss gives him a promotion and increased paycheck. The clone doesn't see why you should get the benefit of all his hard work so - he leaves you, bereft and penniless, to live his own life!

I wish I could travel in time and see the pyramids being built.

You get your time warp and end up in ancient Egypt in the year 1340 BC. You see legions of slaves toiling in the heat. Some Egyptian dudes with funny hats and whips notice you and assume you must be a runaway slave. You end up toiling in the desert heat with all the other hapless souls.

I also wish to travel in time and solve the mystery of murders by The Ripper.

Alacazam! You are back in 19th century Victorian England. You expertly solve the Ripper murders to the astonishment of Scotland Yard and all the famed detectives of the era. However, as you prepare to give evidence at his trial, he leaps from the dock and stabs you in the heart with a cleverly concealed weapon. You are his last victim. Fame forever, but at a price.

I wish I had a self-driving car that could do all manoeuvres perfectly, while I just sit back and enjoy the journey.

You now have a self-driving car... but it enjoys driving as much as you enjoy being driven around and refuses to let you out! You slowly die, locked in an ever driving car.

I wish there was a store closer to me that sold Jackfruit, so I don't have to drive all the way to the north side for a few cans of the stuff!

Your friendly neighborhood store now sells Jackfruit. It's so immensely popular that each time you want to buy your supply it's always sold out. Bummer :(

I wish Halloween would last all year round.

Halloween is permanent. You last out until July, at which point you are found wandering the streets dressed in a costume which appears to combine elements of a zombie, a pirate and the Terminator, sobbing 'no, please, no more pumpkins'. Meanwhile all the children's teeth have fallen out due to candy surfeits.

I wish I was lounging in a hammock on a Tuscan hillside with a large G&T.

You are in a hammock, but it is a second hand one with a big hole right in the middle and you fall on the ground and break your arm and the T& G is poisonous.

I wish I would be cast in Star Wars Episode IX as a crucial character that cannot be killed off is the major character in the next lot of Star Wars movies (Episodes X to XII).

You have your wish. You are indeed cast as a major Star Wars character who cannot be killed off. However, you are also implicated in a sex scandal (à la Weinstein) and several charges are brought against you. The studio decides they can't release any films with you in them - or ever hire you again. Nobody ever sees the films and your career is over.

I wish I had already written the essay that I still have to write.
