So, looking at the web logs, I know that we have players here from about 30 different countries. I just thought it would be interesting to put somes names with places.

My wife and I live in Boulder, COlorado in the U.S. Where the winter has returned for the weekend. We actually moved here pretty recently from Seattle, which is my home town.

Hi, I'm J.C. from the Philippines. Everyone calls me by my initials back here. Why do I love Sleuth? If you play Ragnarok Online, you'd know why - no lag times! ;)

Cambodia, how did you end up there? My trip to Cambodia was the most adventurous one ever, well the most dangerous anyway. Is it true that Siem Reap is now full of 4-5 star hotels???

I work for NGOs, so lots of work in Cambodia even now. If you were in Cambodia in the mid-90s you'd hardly recognize Siem Reap. Yes, full of big hotels - so full of tourists now. The countryside hasn't developed much at all though.

I was there during the elections, I think it was my trip in 98. All embassies were telling us NOT to go there, so we went there. We started in Pnomh Penh, had bullits flying over our guest house. American embassy advised everyone to leave. So we went up north to Siem Reap. There I got caught in a Kmer Rouge attack of some sorts at a remote temple. Plenty of other adventures in Cambodia. Going over land to Vietnam. But despite all the danger, I saw the most impressing things....like Angkor. I can not imagine the tour busses, club med and the sorts. Oooooooh noooo.

I considered going back, but I think I should keep the memory as it is.

You'd think, well nice for the Cambodian people that they have a lot of tourism up there. But I bet the money goes straight to Japan, and the government.

Since then I have seen a bunch of documentaries about Cambodia. During college I specialized in human rights and developing countries. My respect and hat off to you!!!!! I originally wanted to do what you did, but decided against it for various reasons. Some days I have regrets about that.

Glad you made it through in one piece, jstkdn! Ah, yes - '98. Good times. I had to dodge the protests and gunfire to go to work every day after the election. Just after that settled down, there was a kidnapping victim held an apartment just below our place and he escaped by throwing a couple of grenades in behind him and shooting the place up with an AK... But I have to say I'm glad I stayed. I have a four year old son who's lived here (Phnom Penh) all his life and it's much, much safer now.

... I did some work up in Siem Reap earlier this year and Siem Reap is still one of the poorest provinces, outside the town and temple complex. I could go on and on, but I can hear people yawning...

Glad to hear it is safer now. It was just tooooo much in 98. I mean the 10 days I was there, I got my head blown off 2 times, had to leave certain areas quickly as issues starting ocurring guns everywhere, had to get used to seeing UN tanks to support an election. That is MAD please for anyone to grow up in, even if you are used to war, like the Cambodians are.

Uhm, you don't happen to have a really good digital picture of Angkor or one of the other temples do you?????? I am looking for one to blow up like mad, particularly if they have lots of colors in them (like the reflection in the water, sunset something like that.)
