Due to the success of the lateral puzzles in the "A riddle" thread, it seems appropriate to start a lateral thinking puzzle thread.

A rule of thumb to follow would be to allow those who do not know the answer to figure it out for themselves. If you happen to know the answer, please keep it to yourself and let the others have the fun.

Please feel free to start one at any point. It is not necessary to wait for one to finish before starting another one.

Is the location fictional?

If not, is it in the northern hemisphere? western hemisphere? southern hemisphere, eastern hemisphere?

On North America? South America? Europe? Asia? Africa? Australia? Elsewhere?

In a major city? Small town? Rural area?

*The answer I have doesn't place it in a specific location, but taking the answer into consideration and researching it, these are the places where it could have occurred. As a result, the physical location is not relevant.

it was said earlier that the appearance of the questionees was relevant, so maybe:
they asked only good looking people?
they asked only people with nice teeth?
they asked people to make them smile?

Were the askers by general standards "normal"-looking when they asked the questions? Was there anything strange about their dress? Voice? Mannerisms?
