How does it help to get in good standings with diffrent politics (per say, The Order of Socrates)?Should I try to stick with some and avoid others? How do I either contact or do a favor for one if needed?

For your being a new detective there is no real advantage of being in good with one faction or another JL.

Later on when you have earned all the Smart and Interview skills (tough or charming) you will want to work with the factions to learn the special skills they teach.

Also when you have a large bankroll there is some gear you might be interested in purchasing from them.

But those are both off in the future for you, the best way to start your detective career is to concentrate on the basics first.

You'll get cases that will increase or decrease your standings with a certain faction. So yes, if you get a case that brings down your standings with the Order you might have to quit that case.

When your standings are at +1 that faction allows you to visit them at their HQ's. Then you get the chance to do one "little job" for them every day. If you succeed in finishing that job your standings will move up faster.
