If you can afford it get one with a crime lab.

With a crime lab each member of the agency gets to examine any un-identified evidence on other agency members cases that are stored in the files.

It helps to build teamwork, and everyone can contribute as soon as they have the appropriate skill.

To clarify, each detective can look at one piece of evidence per day in the crime lab.

the dets. can attempt (won't always work) to analyze a piece of evidence that is not their own. You can only try to analyze evidence belonging to someone else.

they are worth the investment.
