I got one of those messages, saying that the Dies Arcanum Brotherhood would like to see the case I'm on solved, and the Order of Socrates would like to see it go away. I happen to want to get into the friendly graces of the Order of Socrates. So I was wondering if I should quit the case? Would that get me any points with them?

Yes you should quit if you want to get in the good graces of the Order. If you solve the case you will go up one point in standing with the Brotherhood, and go down one point with the Order. Quitting does not make your standings change at all, for the good or bad.

Correction to this answer now that the expansion has come out.

It is no longer true that Quitting a case does not affect your standings.

This was the case before the expansion came out on Aug 28th 07, now things have changed.

When you do quit a case, the opposite happens, so for you if it was
DAB-+1
OS--1
if you quit it, it should become
DAB--1
OS-+1
Can somebody correct me if I'm wrong?

Nope, I believe you've got it right T.R.
