The Newbie Board is there for Newbies, and while it would help them a lOT to read or think before asking questions, it's merely a fact of life. It is a shame they don't read the Newbies FAQ and cfm's post as 99% of the time their question will be answered. However, sometimes it's just easier and quicker to ask a question that has been asked before. It's also a way for them to get their name out their and start communicating with other players.
Katie, you have a right to think they are boring, as I have a right to find Nancy Drew and Charmed post extremly mind-numbingly dull.
There is always an option of 1) creating you own post or 2) not reading them or 3) bumping up posts that do intrest you.
Police Station post, I like a few others that have PMed me, found this hilarious. There was no "in" joke. I simply cracked up when I saw the title as we have a million detectives, a million more croaks and no police station. I understand if you didn't find it funny.
As for other posts, such as the freebie list or why did you get your detective name, they're good posts that deserve bumping up and people have posted new threads. Others such as thank you to the Mods/Admins are bumped up as there is no point in creating a new post.
Also, it's ironic you mentioned "in-jokes" part of where "in - jokes" come from is the history and KNOWING the history. Through post history and threads, I've come to get to know the community better AND understand any jokes.
I do agree with cfm, about bumping threads up for the sake of it and I have bumped up a few threads to bury posts that I found aggressive and annoying. It was merely a silent action that did in fact, have the intention I wanted.
Sorry for boring you Katie, I hope to see some new, creative posts in the future.

At least nobody is BUMPING up Nancy Drew and Charmed post. Thank goodnes. If someone wants to read old threads, the history is there and they can read it if they want to.
It seemed like alot of old threads were being bumped up last week and it wasnt necessary. Keeping the history in the past and remembering it is great. Continuing to re-live the good ole days not so great.

It's LED that has been bumping up the old posts lately. I am a bit confused, I thought that everybody knew that? I am sure she did it with the best of intentions, not to annoy, bug, be aggressive, mean or creep the community out. Though reading posts I wrote 2 years back, is sort of weird.
Though there has been more bumping lately. We always have had people bumping threads. It always surprises me that most of the time it newbies, dig up threads from like waaaaaaaay back. They come back as a little gift surprise of some sort.
I like some of the bumps (though I wish less were my threads), and they have led to some fun conversations, that many people participated in. Other bumps I could do without. But I think those threads that are liked vs not-liked, is sort of subjective. Boring, silly, aggressive or underhanded threads are likely not bumped up. I know people that HATE the story continues threads, and people that write entire new testaments in there.
As for inside jokes, yeah they are there. Most of the inside jokes are based on comments in other threads. So someone who reads the message boards would know. Also I don't think I have ever caught anyone asking a question about a some joke they didn't understand, and no one answering. Some inside jokes come from friends PMing, agency boards others from sleutchat, other things seem like inside joke but are not. It's understandable that people longer in the community, and participating on the message boards get the jokes. But so far i always hear people say that everyone feels welcome, also on the message board. I think we have found with people who just bump in, are soon accepted, look at newer additions like biggie, al z. Or even before that crunchpatty, jroepel and secret.
If anyone wants a what seems to be an inside joke be explained, ask me in private need me. I'll answer if I know. I am pretty open about things. Other then the secret recipies for rasputins eggs that is.

I guess I really like the posts that get everyone in a heated debate like R Anstetts RSS feed or BadAss's Increase of Diffculty. Last week, there was just OLD threads.
