There will be international virgils in many countries on August 7th. They're a call for both Israel and Lebanon.

The aims:
-call for a ceasefire
-demand that all governments stop the supply of arms to the conflict
-stand in solidarity with the victims and survivors on both sides of the Israel/Lebanon conflict.

lol yeah hand in your Che Guevara t-shirt kiwi.

and there's no confusion there Badass :) Led makes it pretty clear it's not biased one way or the other. Oh and it's prob not so much of a wake vigil, which has funeral connotations to it. Not that a lot of innocent people haven't been killed, and they should definitely be remembered, but I think this is more of a peace vigil, where people gather together in solidatiry to look positively forward towards reconciliation and peace. :)

Thank you for posting this LED.

Who cares about the politics. I'm with oxfam, icrc, human rights watch, and every other neutral human rights ngo in calling for an imediate end to the violence. I just want to see the bloodshed, deaths, and suffering stop ON BOTH SIDES.

After the violence stops, then let the politicians and diplomats hash out the solutions across the tables with pens and ink instead of with bombs and rockets.

Hmmm.. Don't remember left wing 101 in all my IR and PLSI classes... Most everyone I learned from was pretty conservative. Wonder how that explains me? LOL! I don't want to liberalise or conservatise the world, I just want to save it.

There were vigils during the war in Croatia and Bosnia, but I don't think they helped much. They are probably good for forming public opinion, and you don't feel alone in the world, but they don't touch the centres of power who are the real war lords.
