...the game needs a random occurrence...i would suggest that
the detective gets shot in one of the breaks in the mystery and
that he has to go to the hospital and thus he cannot finish the case.
this randomness would apply to all types of cases. it would only
happen perhaps one out of 20 times. it would help smaller firms
who compete against the very large firms and would add some un-
certainty to the game...

A couple of thoughts on this idea.

A 5% chance of something happening is not that small, would have to be lower for it to be a rare random occurance.

Going to the hospital and forcing a quit case on someone (which would be distasteful to me, but does not really hurt anything) is not that much of an impediment. It would not slow the large agecies down perceptably because they are doing quite often 100+ cases a day and 5 fewer solved is only 1 less favor per day.

I would offer that the new expansion will provide some interesting choices for people to make in regards to hunting and the like.

I dont know about anyone else, but i can think of at least a few instances where our "big" agency got beaten on hunts by little guys. Plus, if you think ur losing out, then why not create a bigger agency?

I like that last idea, white bear.

"You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes."

My 2 cents: I like the prize idea but knowing about it by the color of a door just doesn't seem "realistic" in the Sleuth world. That would mean we detectives would have some sort of prescient ability or the ability to see through doors.

Also, if there were a prize behind a door and we pick the lock (something I can't do yet, btw) and take it, doesn't that mean we're stealing?

With that said, I don't know how a prize feature could be integrated... A Lottery? Did they have them back then? Just thinking out loud....
