if you become the philosopher marshall of the order of socrates or something like that, do you get anything? is it different for different factions?

That you'll have to see for yourself. I don't want to ruin the surprise, so I'll just say that it was worth the effort to become the philosopher marshall... Defnitely worth it...

P.S.: It's probably the same for all factions.
