What Should I buy?????

I was wondering what I should be purchasing?
I already have a hat, bracelet, coat, shoes, and chemistry set.
Everytime I try to buy something else it says I need to sell something I already have. But I have 3 empty spaces; the one on the top right and two on the lower left.

You only have 5 pieces of equipment...1 hat, 1 coat, 1 pair of shoes, and 2 other items.
I'm not sure what 3 empty spaces you are refering to, you currently have one of every possible type of item.

Tal, those aren't empty spots. You can have two arm accessories, one body & one head accessory & shoes. So you are actually carrying/wearing as much as you can right now.

Don't buy anything.
You just need to work on your cases, solve your 3, then do the favor. The gear you get from favors is better than you can buy in the detective shop. Patience and persistance will net you better gear and a bigger bank account.
The other issue you have is that you are full.
You can only carry:
1 hat
1 coat
1 pair of shoes
2 accessories
Those boxes are full with what you have now. The space you are refering to is just that, space around the graphic, not more places to put things.
Last point, if you subscribe and join an agency then you will have access to the equipment locker and can store more gear there.
