The basic numbers that you need to keep in mind when dealing with the factions:

+1 to get in the door and do little jobs
+10 to open hunts (for those subscribed & in agencies)
+25 to learn the special skill (plus the applicable skill points)
+30 to get the best price on gear

Remember it is not recomended to pick any of the faction skills until you have a good set of interview and smart skills.

Don't get it if you're not subbed Neri. It's only any good if you're in an Agency and is used during Treasure Hunts.

also, because it's related... the safe in the Bank vault...

To quote cfm from the Welcome newbies thread (which I'm aboou to bump back up)

"What is in the SAFE and how do I get in? The safe is only useful if you are subscribed, in an agency, hunting, have the LCN skill, and it's a "key" hunt. So if you aren't subscribed, DON'T GET THE SAFECRACKING SKILL."

I'm fairly good with the brotherhood. What does pickpocketing do and is it of any use to a non-subscriber?

Pickpocketing allows you to get your reward from your guilty client. While this skill can be fairly handy at first, it's less and less useful as you will have less and less instances where your client is the guilty party with the harder cases.

And there is a lot of great info in the Wecome Newbies thread, so be sure to read it, too. :)
