how come I am not able to choose advanced hair analysis or advanced thread analysis eventhough I have enough skills points?

Well, first things first...Do you have basic thread/hair analysis?

You can only get advanced if you have basic first...For all the skills they build on each other :)

If you have both basic hair and thread, then I'm really not sure why you can't get advanced...You'll have to wait for an answer from one far more knowledgable than I.

Get basic thread and hair asap! Without those you might not find all the evidence at the crime scene.

Tip: read the "welcome newbie" thread almost every question you can think of, is already there ;)
