1st question, I'm Very Smart, so I'm guessing that means all smart skills are half price for me?
2nd question, how much does subscribing help and how familiar should I get with the game before I subscribe?

If you subscribe now you will be able to join an agency and get help learning how to solve cases more efficiently and also get help with cases you are stuck on.
You will be able to travel and learn new skills in other cities when you are at that point in your career, and other detectives in your agency can give you extra cases quite often so you do more when you have the time.
Subscribing does make the game much more interactive with others and enhances the overall experience.

Plus you get 10 cases per day instead of 3.

I think I'll try the game for a week and see if I like it enough to pay for it. Thanks Anstett, if I feel the game's worth paying for I now will.

I did a very similar thing. I started the game and played for 10 days as unsubcribed to get a feel for things to make sure I knew I would like the game.
Then I found an agency that fit me and subscribed.
