Count every " F" in the following text:

FINISHED FILES ARE THE RE
SULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTI
FIC STUDY COMBINED WITH
THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS...

Tell me how many you counted on your FIRST try. Ofcourse you can mention how many u found after rechecking.

Its a straightforward question without any trickery, loopholes and no need for google. :)

Some people know this test already then. Most people will not count the F's in the 'of' first time round as it is an insignificant word and gives very little meaning to the overall text.

In the statement there ate 6 F's
There are 7 capitalised F's after the colon and 8 in total.
There are 12 F's and f's after the colon and 14 in total.

I can tell you this easily as the highlight function in firefox's search bar is a great tool.

And as sam just said, the human mind doesnt oft process the word 'of'.
The fact that everybody has said 6 is outstanding as NORMALLY people read just 3 (ON THEIR FIRST TRY). 4 is rare. And 6 is a genius. It is great to see 6 geniuses. I read only 3 on my first try but could read 6 by my second.

I've tried this test with over 40 people by now (excluding you all). I'll tell you the results.
1. I had forwarded the e-mail containing this test to about 10 people. Everybody spotted only 3 or 4 on their first try. NOBODY said 6.
2. I personally conducted a test and about 15 people read the e-mail passage one after the other. Only ONE person out of the 15 spotted all 6. The rest said 3 or 4.
3. I personally wrote this passage and made about 10 people read it. Almost everybody spotted 6. This weird result, I can conlude, was because the brain dosent have much problem processing words when it is done by a personal handwriting. Especially since mine is pretty bad. :)

When this test says that very few people spot 6, its true. Thats why I found it a bit akward that everybody over here spotted 6.

Well I have to admit, that I figured to ensure my brain wouldn't play tricks on me......I read the passage backwards focusing on the letter F without the words making any sense. :)

how's this for loserish-ness: I just read it again, having seen all six the first time, and having read all the other replies...and saw only five...finding the sixth took me three tries.

(Go me, I'm an idiot)

Clarification please-the first time I started counting and was at three until I hit the third word "of"(which made 4), at that point my brain registered that there were more "of"s that I had not counted. Immediately my brain went back to FINISHED(the first word) to make an accurate count so when I got back to the third word "of" I was now at 6 and not four I then continued with "YEARS...".
CLARIFICATION- THIS MAY BE WHY WE HAVE SO MANY WITH 6's I COULD SAY I COUNTED 6 BECAUSE i COUNTED ONLY ONCE BUT I WOULD THINK THAT IF YOU ARE BEING HONEST THAT ONCE YOU MISS OR RESTART THAT WOULD MEAN FOR ME I HAD 4. AND ARE YOU ALOUD TO READ THE PASSAGE FIRST AND THEN COUNT???
