I'm a senior in high school and so close to graduating... but I still have a homework assignment to do that I need your help with. I have to make a survey of people and what they believe. Is there anyone willing to aswer about ten questions for me? actually, if a could get three people, that would be better. I appreciate any and all help. Thanks!

9. What do you think about the Bible?
It’s a great story. “God said to Noah there’s gonna be a floody-floody”
Not many main-stream Christian scholars believe in the literal translation though. Funnily enough though most main-stream scientists believe in God ;)
The Old Testament is at it’s best man trying to make sense of his world and his relationship with God through story. If you consider the Creation story for example, well hey it’s only off by a few billion years, but as an overall allegory of the order in which the world was created, it’s not bad for a humble shepherd sitting on a hill-top gazing up at the stars, trying to make sense of his world in prose.
The New Testament is God’s revelation of his love for us through his Son Jesus Christ. Generally speaking (misogynistic old Paul aside) it can speak to you if you let it. If the only thing you get out of the NT is that ‘God is Love’, and that we should love our neighbours as we would be loved ourselves, well is that really such a bad message to take on board, and to pass on?
10. What do you think about the modern American church?
Don’t know, it’s probably as crappy a the Australian one. Beside, which Church?
11. What would you change about church?
LOL the generic make it more all-encompassing. Teach it’s ministers to better express the Word of God to a generally agnostic population.

Catholicism, although heavily exposed to Protestant religions as well.

I have received several complaints about this thread already, and as John says we do not want a repeat of the pope thread. For the time being I think the thread should stay up, that being said however i can see how some of the comments made might be seen as intentionally provocative. In the interests of The Limping Lady's graduation i see no reason why the survey should not continue, but being seen as 'neutral' by many sleuthers i will from now on be deleting anything that seems intentionally provocative.

Kris, since you are 'this thread's moderator,' are we okay to discuss?

I can understand if for any reason this thread needs to be shut down. I am grateful for the help I've recieved thus far so I want to thank all of the participators. It was not my intention to start anyhting unpleasant or uncomfortable and I must say that I think we've stayed away from that very well.

Discussion in a calm, friendly manor is always encouraged. I am not moderator of the thread jojo, just looking in on it because of a few complaints already, just keeping it in check.

Yes, you are okay in setting up this thread. It is just hard to control opinions and emotions in moderating.

Funny how controversy tends to follow on the heels of the things that are most interesting, no?

Good luck LL as you Limp towards the end of high school...let us know how your survey goes, and maybe we can all whistle the graduation music for you or something :)

Personally I fail to see how anything that's been written here so far could be damaging to anyone's frail emotions. This thread is not even a discussion but only a query into opinions on a certain subject.

If complaints are the be all and end all of everything no one can express any opinion at all anymore. I think we should be worried more about the fact that some people can't live with the idea that others might have different views than what they were told.

I rest my case...
