So... who do you think's gonna win it? Who's going to go this week? I think either Chris or Taylor is going to win, and that Katherine's going this week.

What about you guys? :)

Katherine is far more of an actress than a singer, she really doesn't have that great a voice. Elliot has an awesome voice but he lacks in the stage presence area

I think it is probably best for Chris that he got voted off now...AI would probably want to develop him as a solo artist, and I think he will have a lot more success as the lead singer of a band -- he already has an offer :)

As much as I love Taylor, I think Katherine or Elliot will have an easier time making it in today's pop scene.

I don't know whether it is the song selections or the contestants themselves, but does anyone else think that this year's show is a lot less entertaining than last year's?

Okay, I might have said this already on the other thread, but screw it. The problem with American (and Canadian...and <insert nationality> ) Idol is that once they have it narrowed down to a field of people who all are reasonably talented, they let the public decide.

This is a really bad idea. Entertainment and democracy are not the same thing. This is no longer a contest about talent, but rather one about popularity. To wit, the guy who got sent home this week was, several weeks ago, told that he was the only person in the show's history to not compromise his integrity as an artist.

Logically, this implies that winning here means comprimising.

Meh. Maybe I'm just extra irritated because people keep telling me I look like Chris.

Well, I guess that is the point of the show...America or Canada or whoever...picking their idot. But I have to agree, it is a popularity contest to a large degree.

I think that is why some of the contestants stick around on the show as long as they do...because they are entertaining, even if they are not particular cut out to make it on the pop charts. The judges (esp. Simon) often comment on the fact that you will go through because people like you, and it is true...Sometimes the great sap story or the pretty face will get you a lot further than a good voice.

I loved Chris, he was my favorite contestant, but I never wanted him to win because I don't think the bigwigs behind AI could market him effectively...

Yup Serena, I hear ya. I had the same reaction when Paris got pink-slipped. Good job pointing out how being "American Idol" means also being "Marketing Idol"

Which raises an interesting question: forget about who is good. Who of the remaining do y'all think is most marketable?

I'd say Katherine. Taylor can sing...but is marketable for Grecian formula, not giddy popstar crap. Elliot can sing, but like Taylor, I can't really see a 12 year old girl nagging her parents to get her a life-sized Elliot poster for her room. So Katherine is my default guess.

Yep, yep...I have to say being marketable is the biggest predictor of success after AI ends. The only past contestants that get any real play here are Kelly and Carrie (both of which are played all the time). I use to hear Clay and Kimberly Locke's songs occasionally, but never heard a song by Rubin or Fantasia.

I've said since this thing started that the only contestant that seemed marketable to me was Katherine, who has the whole Kelly Clarkson 2.0 pop-rock vibe about her. Elliot seems like a nice guy with a good voice, but I'm not exactly sure what genre he falls under...He has a soul flare that doesn't really get played on our Top 40's stations, but that could be different in other places. Taylor may, like Clay, do well on the Adult Contempory charts, but I don't see him making much of a dint on the pop scene.

After Idol regardless of who wins...I see Katherine and Chris (plus band) having careers, and probably Paris too if she gets decent material.

As far as who will win...I'd say Taylor right now, but that could change after this week's show. Last year I was able to call Carrie and Bo as the finalists the first week out, but this year has been more of a challenge...America seems to be voting based on the weekly performances and not overall quality more than I've seen in past years.

Katharine shouldn't win, she's not as talented, but the producers have already decided.
